Honest advice on patching versus new drywall

A Westfield Drywall Company That Looks for the Repair First

We fix walls and ceilings inside your home, and we start every job by asking whether a repair will hold. If it will, that is what we recommend. If the damage runs deeper, we show you why and explain what replacing a section involves before any work begins.

How We Approach Your Walls

Most damaged drywall does not need to come out. A doorknob hole, a popped nail, a cracked corner bead or a stain from an old leak can usually be cut back, patched and finished so the spot disappears under paint. Tearing out a whole sheet costs you more, takes longer and makes more dust, so we only suggest it when a patch would be a short-lived fix.

There are times when replacement is the honest answer. Board that stays soft after a leak, a ceiling that sags between joists, or gypsum that has started to grow mold should come out. When we see that, we point to what we found, take photos you can keep, and walk you through what a new section, the taping and the finishing coats will involve.

Either way, you hear the reasoning before you make a decision. We would rather spend a few extra minutes explaining than have you wonder whether you were sold more than you needed.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • A straight repair-or-replace answer

We tell you what we would do if it were our own wall. When a patch is enough, we say so, even if a bigger job was what you expected to hear.

  • Finish work that blends in

A repair only counts if you cannot find it later. We feather joint compound wide, sand between coats and handle texture matching on knockdown, orange peel and smooth walls so the patch reads like the rest of the surface.

  • A clean work area

We lay drop cloths, cover nearby furniture and close off the room when sanding. Before we leave, we vacuum the dust and haul away the scraps, so you are not cleaning up after us.

  • Clear estimates in writing

You see what the job covers line by line, including how many coats of compound and whether a paint touch-up is part of it. Sometimes a cut-open wall reveals more damage than the surface showed. When that happens, the work pauses and you hear what turned up, with photos, before anything on the estimate changes.
